Allison Stanford

Soprano

 

Allison Stanford hails from Conway, Arkansas, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Music in Vocal Performance at Arizona State University (ASU), where she studies with Robert Barefield. Ms. Stanford comes to the Pacific Opera Institute and the Bear Valley Music Festival thanks to generous contributions from the Lyric Opera Theatre Guild at ASU. This fall, she will sing the Governess in ASU’s production of Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. Ms. Stanford has performed a variety of roles in opera and musical theatre, including: Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, Yum Yum in The Mikado, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Papagena in The Magic Flute, and Lucy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown! In 2008, she won first place at the National Opera Association Vocal Competition, Scholarship Division; and sang as a National Finalist in the Music Teachers National Association Young Artists Competition. Ms. Stanford made her international debut in a recital at the Bolivian National Consulate in 2007, as an Artist-in-Residence with Songs Unlimited, Inc. and the Philharmonic Society of La Paz, Bolivia. She has also performed in Germany with the Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar, and in Italy with the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program. During her undergraduate years at the University of Mississippi, Ms. Stanford won the Encouragement Award at the District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and sang the National Anthem for the Prince Edward of England.
