A Diamond is Forever...

This season promises to be full of excitement as we bring back the opera and add some new entertainment to the line-up. We kick off opening night with Super Diamond, the Neil Diamond cover band from San Francisco. They were here mid-season two years ago and brought Bear Valley patrons to their feet! They have the ability to entertain all generations, making this a night of family fun. Broadway Pops, July 29, is always a crowd favorite, and this year we will be featuring music from the Golden Era of Broadway, contemporary shows of today, plus shows that are on Broadway right now. This year's opera, August 8, will be Elixir of Love, starring David Gagnon, who performed in the Pops last summer, and again this summer, plus Katie Van Kooten, soprano, who recently made her stage debut at the Metropolitan Opera! On August 1, the Bear Valley Orchestra will present "A Night in Old Vienna" performing the Vienna Philharmonic New Years Concert Program of December 31, 1939 featuring the MUSIC OF JOHANN STRAUSS JR. including the Ouverture to Die Fledermaus, Skaters Waltz, the beloved “Blue Danube Waltz” and other Strauss favorites. The schedule is online, and all of our wonderful performances are listed.

Tickets are on sale now so bring the family and tell a friend...let's keep the music alive in magical Bear Valley!

Bear Valley Young Musicians Camp

August 2 - 8, 2009

The Bear Valley Music Festival Young Musicians Camp is an exciting one-week, overnight, camp for instrumental and vocal musicians ages 13-17. Aspiring musicians participate in the Festival, broaden their skills, and work with professional musicians while forming new friendships. Festival soloists and members of the symphony mentor, teach and practice with the young musicians. Meals, accommodations, lessons and outdoor activities, like kayaking and rock-climbing, are included in the $1095 camp fee (including $100 registration). Please contact the Festival office at (209) 753-2574 or 800-458-1618, email at camp@bearvalleymusic.org, click on “Youth Music Camp,” or visit www.BearValleyMusicCamp.org for additional information.

The Bear Valley Music Festival

The Bear Valley Music Festival offers a full symphony orchestra, international soloists, legendary entertainers, and renowned opera stars in a unique mountain setting. The Festival offers an outdoor musical experience while under the shade of a large 1000 seat tent.

An easy three-hour drive from the Bay Area through the historic gold country, Bear Valley sits along Highway 4 on the Ebbetts Pass Corridor, a recently designated NATIONAL Scenic Byway (www.scenic4.org). The Bear Valley Village and surrounding area offers an abundance of recreational activities: hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, boating, camping, mountaineering, and relaxing between Festival performances.

Refreshments and dinners are available at the Festival Tent prior to all performances and during intermission, proceeds directly benefiting the Festival. Campgrounds, lodging, fine dining, and casual eateries are available in and near the Village as well as in the nearby communities of Arnold, Murphys, and Angels Camp.

Be sure to check out the Arts of Bear Valley, which will be set up directly across from the tent in the Perry Walther Building.

Kira Krayk: Marathon Donor

Running for the festival...

"When I was in elementary school, we used to do a bike-a-thon every year to raise money for our school. Families would ride around Bear Valley together and the entire community would pledge the kids per mile or flat rates. We spent the entire day competing against one another, ourselves and the clock to raise money for something that enriched our lives and the community. It was such a fun and successful event that I wanted to revive the athletic fund raising in adulthood and raise money for Music From Bear Valley through a running race. I ran my first marathon in November of 2008 and finished in 4 hours and 10 minutes. My goal this year is to raise at least $5,000 for the Music Festival and finish in less than 4 hours. A contribution of any kind will help with my efforts and be very greatly appreciated." -- Kira Krayk
